Limited-Access Scaffolding for Tight Sites
Working in a tight alley, a rear garden with no vehicle access or an internal courtyard? Our CISRS-carded, CITB-trained team builds neat, compliant limited-access scaffolds where space is at a premium—planning material handling, protection and timings so your project keeps moving safely.

Where limited-access scaffolding helps
- Narrow alleys & side passages with restricted width/height
- Rear gardens & landlocked plots with no vehicle access
- Internal courtyards and enclosed service yards
- Over conservatories/orangeries and fragile roofs
- Town-centre sites with busy footways and minimal laydown
- Chimney & re-roof projects at the rear of properties
How we make tight sites work
Survey & planning
We confirm access widths, headroom, ground conditions and the working area. If needed we schedule out-of-hours delivery to reduce disruption and coordinate with neighbours and site managers.
Safe material handling
Sectioned drops, smaller lifts and sensible carry routes. We use spreader/sole boards to protect paving and lawns and plan safe hoist or hand-carry positions where vehicles can’t reach.
Protection for property & public
Floor, doorway and facade protection; debris netting and sensible segregation where the public is nearby. We always leave routes clear for residents and businesses.
Bridging & cantilever options
Where ground access is blocked (e.g., over a conservatory), we can bridge or cantilever from suitable positions, using ladder/beam solutions sized to the span and load requirements.
Compliance & permits
RAMS supplied for every job, tagging at handover and inspections at the agreed interval. If a scaffold needs to stand on a footway or highway, we’ll advise on permits and manage them where applicable.
Typical limited-access setups
- Alleyway access: narrow bays and staged carries with spreader boards to protect surfaces
- Through-property protection: temporary floor/door protection and dust control while materials pass through
- Over-conservatory bridge: ladder/beam bridge with guardrails to reach rear roof lines
- Courtyard work: compact lifts and internal loading points with tidy segregation
- Rear chimney access: front elevation with returns or bridging to reach rear stacks safely
Recent examples
Rear re-roof, terrace property: materials carried through side passage; front elevation with return and bridging over single-storey extension to reach rear slope.
Town-centre shop refurb: night-time delivery, compact loading zone, debris netting and clear pedestrian routes.
Over-conservatory chimney works: beam bridge with edge protection; minimal footprint in the garden, completed within two days.
FAQs
Can you work if there’s no vehicle access to the rear?
Yes. We plan safe carry routes, protect floors and surfaces and use staged drops to get materials
